
Along with those 5 million people that currently have Alzheimer's there are around 10 million volunteer caregivers including family and friends that offer services to loved ones free of charge in order to ensure that they receive the best possible care in their life. This means that excluding nurses, doctors and other health care professionals there are around 15 million Americans suffering from the effects of Alzheimer's disease.
As this number triples over the next 35 years, we will likely see the total number of people effected by the disease reach somewhere around the 45-60 million mark.
Yearly costs associated with treating those suffering from Alzheimer's disease is currently estimated at about $148 Billion. That number should easily triple to be around $600 Billion annually! There is a tremendous need to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease and it could cripple our nation financially if we are not able to find more reasonable methods to treat or cure the disease.
